On Friday 3rd September 2010 the Coggeshall Scout & Guide Headquarters was formally opened with a bar-b-que and activity evening.
Over 300 young people, parents and members of the community in Coggeshall had their first opportunity to explore the new building that has been build in partnership with Honywood Community Science School.
The new building has two halls, a fully fitted kitchen and allows full support for disabled access and replaces the Scout & Guide hut in Windmill Fields Coggeshall which has served since the late 1970's. The project took five years from the initial idea to the keys being handed over and was made possible by fund raising, grants, sale of the existing hut and land and donations from people in Coggeshall.
David Hewitt, Group Scout Leader and Louise Edwards, District Guide Leader both gave short speeches welcoming everybody to the evening and thanking all the many people who had contributed to the building.
There are ten Scouting and Guiding sections in Coggeshall with nearly 200 young people attending each week and it is hoped that the new facility will encourage new leaders and helpers to come forward so that even more young people can have the opportunity to join as each section currently has a waiting list.
In 2010 Coggeshall Scouts & Guides have moved to a new headquarters built in partnership with Honywood Community Science School.
This new building will provide a purpose built space for Scouts and Guides for many years to come. We currently have waiting lists for all our sections, however, the new building is 75% larger than our current HQ and will enable us to meet the demand which at present means not all youngsters in Coggeshall can have the opportunity to be Scouts or Guides.
So far between ourselves and the School we have raised £390,000 and with the sale of our existing building and land will be close to the sum we need to complete the build and fit out. We are now asking for your help to reach our target and offering you the chance to be permanently recognised in the new HQ.
